I was just talking to a friend of mine and it struck me in the face a reason why so many people are fiercely religious and have no idea why. Since becoming my own, rational being and discarding all that I was taught as a child about religion, I have found forming your own, intelligent opinion to be HARD. I mean, this is tough work to come up with something that not only make sense in your own mind, but works with the world around you. I think in a lot of cases that people simply can’t be bothered or don’t have the motivation/conviction to formulate their own religious beliefs. They let go and accept someone else’s strongly-worded opinion because it’s easier when it’s laid out for you. “Believe this” and they do.
