What a crazy election this was. I'm convinced that the right man won and I couldn't be happier.

GaryJay: Strangely enough, I normally ascribe to the historical Republican way of thinking in regards to the free market economy. The big problem is two-fold in my opinion, however: One, we have had a large number of artificially-created forces that have screwed with the way things work (can anyone say Iraq?), and Two, there's a fine line between regulation and letting the market forces shape what happens, and things have been allowed to swing too far over. The Republicans are not into admitting that this is the case (that they screwed it up) and thus won't be first in line to fix it.

Yes, I expect there to be tax increases -- we have an awful lot of things to fix from the previous administration; war debt, financial bailouts, screwed up social programs, etc. No doubt there will be some pet projects in there that Dems favor and Reps hate (you know, like, charity and other acts of being nice to folk), but for awhile, it'll have to stay as a dull roar to the fixes for now. I don't envy whoever gets in -- they have a heck of a job ahead of them, regardless of party.

A smart leader will realize there's a balance between pinching the taxpayers and getting stuff done. I think Obama has a better chance of finding that medium than McCain. Mind you, no matter what you fund, you'll have some Reps that are pissed simply because they don't like being taxed -- at all. And no matter what you do to save the taxpayers money, you'll have some Dems that are up in arms because Little Johnny didn't get an extra pair of socks this year because their charity was unfunded. You can't please everyone, of course, but hoping for a nice balance -- that's what I hope for. We're certainly not there right now.

things go in cycles, we have been on a conservative free market cycle for the last 8 years, and now predictably the people will flip flop and sign up for the liberal socialist line of thinking---it will get off to a good start with tax increases beginning in 2009, the last two years of liberal democratic controlled congress, have seen record deficit spending, and if Obama gets elected there will be no threat of presidential veto of the spending the liberals want to implement---I figure by 2012, inflation here will be double digits and the people will go screaming back to the conservative republican thinking. ---time will tell.
