Half a billion blogs (at least) out there today will be talking about the election, and I don’t want to become just another voice in the din, so I’ll keep it short and sweet.
You’ve already read (or you should have) my opinions on why you might choose to NOT vote.   But I have a lot of faith that the folks that read this blog are smart, motivated individuals, so I’m not too worried about it.   But, just to reiterate a point:  I don’t care who you vote for today as long as you have a good reason for it. This is your moment, America, to step up and speak your mind.   We’ll find out at the end of the day what this country really thinks (and whether or not a bunch of us need to move to Australia to find like-minded consensus.
That being all said….
For all the talk, for all the rhetoric, for all the ads and media and coverage — Obama still remains my top choice, and was the circle I filled in 3 weeks ago when I voted absentee.  If you’re sitting on the fence (and I don’t know as though many are these days), please consider chucking your vote in his direction.   Not only does my head say he’s the way to go, but my gut does, and I’ve learned to listen to that as a valuable contributor.  If it doesn’t work out for some reason (I don’t think it won’t) and you voted for him because of me, you can personally write me a letter of disgust and I’ll take it like a man.
I don’t think you’ll be writing that letter.
Do it for a better tomorrow.  Do it for a change from what we’ve been doing the past 8 years that, as you can clearly see, hasn’t worked out.  Do it for a refreshing change from fear and suspicion and government poking its head where it shouldn’t.  Do it for my son, if you like, whom I want to have the best of everything in life possible and whom can only benefit from a good government leader.  Do it for having someone intelligent and charismatic and likeable in the office for once.
Whatever reason you need, just do it.
Get yer vote on, America.  I’ll see you at the end.

things go in cycles, we have been on a conservative free market cycle for the last 8 years, and now predictably the people will flip flop and sign up for the liberal socialist line of thinking—it will get off to a good start with tax increases beginning in 2009, the last two years of liberal democratic controlled congress, have seen record deficit spending, and if Obama gets elected there will be no threat of presidential veto of the spending the liberals want to implement—I figure by 2012, inflation here will be double digits and the people will go screaming back to the conservative republican thinking. —time will tell.

GaryJay: Strangely enough, I normally ascribe to the historical Republican way of thinking in regards to the free market economy. The big problem is two-fold in my opinion, however: One, we have had a large number of artificially-created forces that have screwed with the way things work (can anyone say Iraq?), and Two, there’s a fine line between regulation and letting the market forces shape what happens, and things have been allowed to swing too far over. The Republicans are not into admitting that this is the case (that they screwed it up) and thus won’t be first in line to fix it.
Yes, I expect there to be tax increases — we have an awful lot of things to fix from the previous administration; war debt, financial bailouts, screwed up social programs, etc. No doubt there will be some pet projects in there that Dems favor and Reps hate (you know, like, charity and other acts of being nice to folk), but for awhile, it’ll have to stay as a dull roar to the fixes for now. I don’t envy whoever gets in — they have a heck of a job ahead of them, regardless of party.
A smart leader will realize there’s a balance between pinching the taxpayers and getting stuff done. I think Obama has a better chance of finding that medium than McCain. Mind you, no matter what you fund, you’ll have some Reps that are pissed simply because they don’t like being taxed — at all. And no matter what you do to save the taxpayers money, you’ll have some Dems that are up in arms because Little Johnny didn’t get an extra pair of socks this year because their charity was unfunded. You can’t please everyone, of course, but hoping for a nice balance — that’s what I hope for. We’re certainly not there right now.
What a crazy election this was. I’m convinced that the right man won and I couldn’t be happier.
