I think bills, and budgets suck ass as it is. I like you am making more money than I ever have, and haven't really added on any more bills, in fact I think I've taken one away and yet I still pinch pennies. If you ever figure out what this black hole is be sure to let me know.

The problem with this vet bill is that it was way out of proportion for what we've paid in the past for this procedure. Normally it costs us a between $75 and $140 to have the cat opened up -- to suddenly have a $280 bill for it was nothing less than a complete and utter shock.

The second issue was that this vet required the payment, in full, all at once. The other vets we were able to pay it off little by little over a few months. THAT we could have handled -- being socked for near $300 all at once really hurts.

Here's hoping the cat doesn't get bad again.

I hope you find treatment someplace cheaper. Good luck, though. Going to the vet, especially an emergency vet, is never ever cheap or reasonable. You can only justify it to yourself because your cat was very ill, even though it doesn't pay the bill.
You do learn to tell vets to leave out most of the unnecessary stuff after several scary bills. Like the stupid fish flavored medicine the vet said that Beau wouldn't mind taking (hahahaha) that was $15 extra. Do not agree to stuff like that. If you need a pill gun or any supplies, ask us! :P We'll let you borrow our stuff instead of buying it from the vet for like, $10.
Vets get you for a lot of things, a lot of them small things. It's five dollars here, 10 dollars there. It all adds up. Personally, your $200 bill does not surprise me. I didn't even blink at that. When we took Beau to get his bladder inspected for infection, a procedure we thought would be about $150 turned out to be over $300. Some of the stuff you get charged for can't be helped but you will learn what is right for your cat and what can be left out. We use two vets here in Waterloo and one is a bit cheaper than the other but really, they're all expensive. If you find a vet that's reasonable, please let us know. Welcome to the wonderful world of normal vet bills. Lets hope that nothing worse happens to Leo, for both your sake.
