I have recently become a YouTube whoremonger, perusing the vids and seeing things that have amazed, confounded, amused, touched, and angered me, all in the span of a few free moments of my day. As the website gains more and more momentum, the material it’s displaying gets more and more interesting.
Vlogs aren’t new, of course, but YouTube is suddenly giving them a new life of their own with a MySpace-age like way of networking, creating communities, reputations, opinions, etc. and that is what’s driving this phenomenon more than anything.
For those of you who might not be YTers yet, I’ll share with you some of my favorite posters so far;
- TheHill88 – The amusing, quirky, and very down-to-earth videos of Caitlin Hill from Brisbane, Australia, are currently my favorite watch on YT. She’s a very charismatic young lady and brings a nice, fresh yet homey feel to her camera performances. You get the feeling that you could hook up and go out for a latte and not feel awkward even 5 minutes after meeting her.
- geriatric1927 – Peter is an older gentleman who has decided to vlog about his life online, which I think is great. Although I haven’t watched all of his videos yet, the ones I have are fascinating.
- hutchell – I just found this Norwegian girl as she replied to one of Caitlin’s videos, and she’s terribly cute and funny.
- bravesgirl5 – This gal is a *bit* too obsessed with the Braves baseball team; other than that, she’s pretty spunky.
These are just the ones that I view regularly — of course, I watch a ton of ones on an irregular basis, mostly from the Top Rated or Most Disucussed pages, which tend to be the most interesting.
I’m curious to see how this medium progresses — instead of having to watch what is on the tube, you now get to BE the tube. It could be a fad or it could lead to very dynamic streams of media that get fed to us as we choose, and I’m all for choice. Combine this with amateur reporting and news blogging and we might even redefine how we keep up with the world and our community.

I watch old shows on YouTube. That and Weird Al videos. *Nerd*
Did you hear about that one girl on YouTube who was supposed to be talking about her real life but turns out she was just an actor? OMGDRAMAWTFBBQ!?
Yeah. I’m not big into watching other people’s lives or monologues but I do like to see people’s travel videos. I’ve found some neat Mackinac ones, where I knew people that were taped, and even one from my high school. YouTube is neato.
