I don't think technology can ever replace personal contacts, but it can enhance or degrade existing relationships. I've certainly made good friends online, yourself included - and sometimes it's the only way I can keep in touch with those I've moved away from. But I crave coffee dates and just hanging out, so e-mail and Skype can only do so much!

I agree with your comments about our sincerity in person, though - it's very tempting to put on a brave face and go out into the world, and the internet does make it easier to say what we mean while dampening the fear of someone's reaction. But it can have the opposite effect as well, and encourage us to be even more duplicitous!

I met my wife when she was a performer for an adult entertainment site. Therefore, I stand very much in favor of electronic communication; it brings people together. As the tagline for our online meeting place went, "This is the place where people come together." Can't put it much better than that.

I think it's important to have a happy balance of technology and person to person contact. I think both have their roles in society and man kind's interaction!

I love technology. I met my best friend Andrea online, on a cooking message board. I met you and Yolanda for all intents and purposes online. You are both very dear friends, in my book. I have friends where I live, sure. Why limit myself though? It hasn't made me or anyone I know "less human"...if anything, it has shown me that we are all human, and all looking to make a connection with others outside our immediate worlds.

There is so much talk of "world peace"...surely the smaller the world grows via technology, the closer we get to the possibility?
