Just because people are thin, doesn't mean we don't eat, and doesn't mean we don't get those insatible sensations to munch or eat. I too get those, especially when I'm bored, be it at home or at work. I've found nuts, apples, celery, etc. work the best. While it doesn't always take that feeling away (and it takes time to fight that sensation) those are food that take A LOT of effort to eat and by the time I'm half way through an apple, my jaw is tired and I say, screw it! Trust me, i REALLY do munch, especially here at work. As a person who often spends most days or at least a good chunck of my day sitting at a computer, I understand that feeling (definately not at the level you do, but...)I've also found just getting up, doing a hot lap around the counter (I admit, I don't know how your office area is set-up, so I don't know if it's feasible), but that hot lap often gets my mind stimulated in a different way and takes it off the urge to eat. I don't know if these will work for you, but as your trying to figure this all out for yourself, it can't hurt! :-)

BG: Now all I have to do is contract a violent reaction to a wide swath of foods and I'm set! :) I don't envy your, "forced diet," in the least -- my "lucky bastard" comment was not about folks like you who are obviously getting screwed from the food end big-time. Gum -- works, somewhat. There's only so long I can chew gum before I get tired of it. Can't drink too much water or I'll be forced to pee every 5 minutes and I can't leave my desk that much (and go down a flight of stairs to the toilet each time). I've tried nuts/fruits/etc. but the urge stays -- remember, it's not that I'm hungry, I just have the sensation of wanting to eat.

So yeah....just a struggle I'm trying to come to terms with. I need to find a way in my mind or otherwise to mitigate the sensation from the start; then I don't have to worry about "compensatory" activities because I simply won't need them. I'm just trying to find out what my magic key is, if there IS any. :)

I get this, but not being able to eat what I want cured it in a way. I craved pizza so much but I can never, ever eat and because it makes me so sick and that has started off a kind of reaction in me: i manage to ignore cravings but i am the sort of person who forgets to eat sometimes anyway - not really a foodie.

I would suggest if it's not hunger then snacking on nuts and fruit or things that are at least not outrightly fatty; maybe a bit of sugar. or chewing gum?
