I too suffer from these on occasion, and your mother hit the nail on the head..."For me it was refusing to face something I found personally threatening or extremely distasteful".

Working with GJ was both for me, and I had a panic attack like I had never had in my life the one night. I sincerely hope I never have one on that scale again.

I remember both of the above and stuggled myself when you were both small. It was a time when my stable home was in jeopardy. I had them when out and about (remember one particularly in K-mart) when I thought if I did not get home I would surely die. But the worst came one night while working 11- 7. I had to leave. That was when I sought counseling as I had to work. Could not let them interfer. It was our bread and butter. Once I made the appointment they disappears and have not resurfaced.

For me it was refusing to face something I found personally threatening or extremely distasteful (as the above was both)

Hope to never experience again.

Oh yes, I remember that not-so-fondly! I've not had panic attacks, but anxiety attacks. I had them after the whole "house getting struck by lightning resulting in the fire" thing. Just thinking about being in that house evoked such a fear that my pulse and heartbeat would race and I would hyper-ventiale and needless to say the room would spin, etc. I still don't like to be anywhere near that house! Just thinking about that house makes my heart race. For a long time, thunderstorms resulted in the same kind of panic. I am happy to say that I can now sometimes sleep through a storm and if I can't sleep, I don't hyper-ventilate or need the drugs that I was given at the time to control those attack! Either one is not fun, I'm sure!
